Something you don’t see often—a fur-free guinea pig.
The “Skinny Pig†was created for lab testing in the 1970s but is now the UK’s must-have pet.

Woolly jumper—the animals need to wrap up in winter
The baldies must wear factor 50 suncream in the summer, a jumper in the winter and need their dry skin moisturized. They also eat three times more than standard guinea pigs to keep warm. Breeders have set up waiting lists to meet demand as desperate pet lovers pay up to £150 ($214US).

The animal in art. Jack Russell/William Strutt.
Posted in Artworks, Mammals on October 3rd, 2007 by PMStrutt was born in England but spent a great deal of his life in Australia. He is known for his work as an illustrator and later for his commissioned works. One of his most famous pieces is titled Black Thursday, February 6th which depicted men and animals running from the bush fire that swept across Victoria, Australia.

William Strutt ‘A Warm Response’ 1889 Painting, Oil on Canvas
In the two above paintings, Strutt’s dog is a Jack Russell Terrier. Fitting with a JRT’s instincts to harass or harm small animals, this dog attempts to mess with a crawfish…and the crawfish sets him straight!! ouch!! Read the rest of this entry »

Posted in Artworks, Humor, Mammals, Oddly enough on September 25th, 2007 by PMFor the highly structured bloggers, or those that long to be, here is a blog, Watermark—a poet’s notebook, that has been posting Cat items on Friday’s. It suggests a great way to create that “something fun to look forward” mindset. To introduce you to Watermark here is one of the earlier posts that went all the way back to August 2004! The title is “Badly Drawn Cats” and the premise is this: “it’s all very simple—drunken doodling leads to challenge to friends leads to asking random people in pub to draw pictures leads to knocking up web site leads to obsession!”
Here are several to admire:

Gorilla marketing.
Posted in Humor, Mammals, Movies, Oddly enough on September 18th, 2007 by hessoThe folks at Very Short List (VSL) give us a plethora of something to think about on a daily basis. We can opt out, but we never will. We read the stuff and now we have an animal story to share.
This is a video recreated by super ad agency Fallon for Cadbury Dairy Milk in the UK. As VSL asks, “What’s a Phil Collins–obsessed, highly expressive gorilla could possibly have to do with a confectionery and beverage company escapes us.”
Let’s see the short flick.
The video transcript:
We open on purple recording studio wall.
A title appears: A Glass and a Half Full Production.
We start listening to the first sounds of ‘In The Air Tonight’ by Phil Collins. Read the rest of this entry »
Kitty Crack: how to make super catnip.
Posted in Humor, Issues/Opinions, Mammals, Oddly enough, Questions on September 17th, 2007 by hessoWarning: though there is a bit of humor in this discussion, this is not a joke. Recklessness can cause injury, even death. Be responsible. Opinions and recommendations should be documented. PM does not endorse nor recommend anything other than the art of conversation.
“At least two thirds of domestic cats “enjoy” the effects of Nepeta, a.k.a. “catnip.” But do they enjoy it enough? If humans were able to isolate the active ingredient in catnip, could we not use it to become omnipowerful CATGODS? Imagine the possibilities! What fool wouldn’t want their own personal cat army? A massive fuzzy force with which to execute your every bidding? A united, unquestioning militia that requires nothing other than unfettered access to the super-powerful catnip products that give their adorable cuddly lives meaning.”— theinstructables.com Read the rest of this entry »
