About Pet Monologues

Posted in Uncategorized on February 2nd, 2008 by PM

Pet Monologues is helping to heighten public awareness of animal issues and to encourage people to think about how we as humans relate to animals. Special interests: Caw to art! is an effort to showcase pets and animals in an ARTFUL manner. We have a year-long initiative in 2007-08 recognizing World Animal Day called Bless the Animals. We also feature design-driven modern pet products. And we are green. Very green.

Our Pets
Pets are important to us. They are considered both family and friend. They impact our lives in both big and little ways. They greet us when we come home. They pester us for attention. We know they can wake us up in the middle of the night and sound a fire alarm. We know they can be fierce protectors if given an opportunity. These are our happy tales.

We also have tales that make us sad. Some of our sad stories cause us to laugh when we share them with friends. That’s because everyone who has had a pet or knows a pet owner can identify with them. And telling these stories feels a bit like the proper closure.

This site is about our pets and their stories.

The Arf Deco Dog Parade was a hoot. It caught us by surprise, hence so few pictures.

One thing for certain. 8 out of 10 dogs in South Beach wear clothes. Many wear hats. And SB could be the Italian greyhound capital of the world. Yes, you will find quite a few chihuahuas and bulldogs. But the greyhounds
are—everywhere.

No swimming! Mississippi paddlefish.

polyodon spathula—OMG!

NG has a Gallery of world’s gigant freshwater fishes and there I found this incredible creature you see on this photo. If it was not NG, I would never believe it’s a real fish. I would think it’s or pre-historic animal or maybe computer-invention. But NG writes it’s Mississippi paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) 221 centimeters long with population about 1,353, based on a 2001 study.

Safety and awareness.

George Carlin. On aging.

Posted in Humor, Stories, Tips/Info on December 11th, 2007 by PM

This might seem a little off topic but towards the end George mentions “pets” so PM thinks this is right on topic! A dose of year-end wisdom.

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we’re kids? If you’re less than 10 years old, you’re so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

“How old are you?” “I’m four and a half!” You’re never thirty-six and a half. You’re four and a half, going on five! That’s the key!!

You get into your teens, now they can’t hold you back.

You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

“How old are you?” “I’m gonna be 16!” You could be 13, but hey, you’re gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you BECOME 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony. YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!! Read the rest of this entry »

Amazing hug!

Wanna see an African lion hug and kiss a woman he was happy to see? The woman found the lion near death one day, brought him home, and nursed him back to health. Can you feel the love tonight?

Should we euthanize the Yorkie?

My grandmother is ill and cannot care for her aging Yorkshire terrier.

Editor’s note: This is a letter to Cary Tennis, advice columnist, Salon Magazine

Dear Cary,

I am stressed and wrestling with an ethical dilemma: Would it be right to put down the 11-year-old dog of my grandmother, who has middle-onset Alzheimer’s disease?

It’s the eve of Thanksgiving and my grandparents are both here, with this dog, a tiny, whiny Yorkshire terrier who has learned to beg constantly. It’s not her fault; my grandmother forgets that she has just fed her, hears her whine (oh the sound of that whine!) and gives her another largish helping of steak or chicken or cookies, or whatever anyone happens to be eating at the time. As a result, the dog is overweight, out of shape (she will not walk more than five feet before stopping and dragging her feet), largely incontinent (I just wiped up hot dog pee 10 minutes ago), and the most annoying creature on the planet. I mean, I don’t have kids yet (I’m 24), but if this were my kid I would send it straight to boarding school.

Unfortunately, though, this dog is the center of my grandmother’s small and dimming world, along with my grandfather, who is in fine mental condition but has some cardiac problems — I think she likes to feel that the dog needs her and isn’t judging her for mental lapses (not that the rest of the family is, I think we’re doing a good job of stimulating and caring for her). My mom asked her once whether she would be more upset if she (her daughter) died or if the dog died, and she indicated that the death of the dog would make her more upset. Today I visited Modulator and came across one of those posts that “get you” to alter your list of things to do. Here is what he had posted…

If you’re reading this blog…you are a…

So I did what most would do—many wouldn’t admit—played the game and here’s what I got…

Note: I dialed in petmonologues.com/pet022207

Eight hours later back at it again…

Note: dialed in petmonologues.com

One hour later back at it again…conclusion. If you have two “pets” in your name or have a name like Balloon Juice we get what we deserve. If you have an “.org” after your name you are a genius unless your url is “usgov.org” (try it). Having a “.com” at the end of your url obviously makes you smarter looking.

At this writing no answer for why Byzantine Shores or Watermark gets this…
cash advance

Of course, if you have an “.edu” you already know what the answer will be. What about Fishalicious or Animals as Friends??
