About Pet Monologues

Posted in Uncategorized on February 2nd, 2008 by PM

Pet Monologues is helping to heighten public awareness of animal issues and to encourage people to think about how we as humans relate to animals. Special interests: Caw to art! is an effort to showcase pets and animals in an ARTFUL manner. We have a year-long initiative in 2007-08 recognizing World Animal Day called Bless the Animals. We also feature design-driven modern pet products. And we are green. Very green.

Our Pets
Pets are important to us. They are considered both family and friend. They impact our lives in both big and little ways. They greet us when we come home. They pester us for attention. We know they can wake us up in the middle of the night and sound a fire alarm. We know they can be fierce protectors if given an opportunity. These are our happy tales.

We also have tales that make us sad. Some of our sad stories cause us to laugh when we share them with friends. That’s because everyone who has had a pet or knows a pet owner can identify with them. And telling these stories feels a bit like the proper closure.

This site is about our pets and their stories.

Bloggers unite. Streetwise.

In Chicago there is a visible, successful, inspiring organization, Streetwise.

Who We Are and What We Do
StreetWise is a social enterprise designed to help severely impoverished men and women out of poverty. We publish weekly “StreetWise”, a general interest newspaper with a gritty “from the streets perspective” to give insite to its readers on what is really going on in Chicago. By using vendors as the distribution mechanism, we are able to personalize the face of poverty and create income for the vendor.

We support this organization, the vendors, whenever the opportunity presents itself. If you are in Chicago, please do the same when you see a Streetwise vendor. Also visit the Streetwise site. If your city does not have a similar program think about introducing the business model to your city.

Our resident Yellow Crowned Night Heron
perched on the pier at dusk and posed patiently
while I memorized her theatrical black mask.
After a time, she turned full circle, fluttered
an operatic fan of dark spiky wings,
opened a long pointy beak,
spat something that bounced hard
–a brown ruby, perhaps—
and flew off to another engagement,
charging absolutely nothing for the show.
