Caw to art!

Posted in Uncategorized on February 11th, 2008 by PM

Call for submissions!

What is Caw to art?
A weekly collecting to showcase pets and animals in an ARTFUL manner. Images can be a photograph, fine art, a scribble, a sculpture. Words can be a poem, a monologue or short story, a quote. We’ll post links to sites that have images or words of their chosen animals. Humans can only play supporting roles. It may be your effort or someone else’s that really moves you. Could be for the artist in you¦

PM will link to your post per usual. PM may also make a request for you to let PM substitute your images/words on the Caw to art! (C2a!) post. If you haven’t already noticed, all (most) PM images are 400px wide. See Image Specifications for more information.

Previous show: Caw to art! #35

When can we submit our work?
We will collect anytime but post on Wednesday through mid-day Friday every week, though the process may be subject to change.

Submission:
We will add your post to the list if you do one of the following:

* Leave a comment or trackback (may be moderated) to this post
* Use the Blog Carnival Submission Form,
* Email Pet Monologues or
* PM finds it during our weekly search of the web

Time permitting we will continue to process until the Friday Ark goes up on…Friday.

Image Specifications:
All images on PM are 400 px wide. Videos are 360 px wide.

Yes, there are several images that are really marginal, i.e., the ‘critter label” image is a good example of a bad image. Let’s try and do better than that if you don’t mind. Please submit 400 px wide or if you are unable to size yourself, PM will assist you.

Do link to the Caw to art whether you use trackbacks or not.

World Animal Day 2008

Posted in Uncategorized on February 4th, 2008 by PM

Bless the animals.

World Animal Day occurs annually on 4 October. Animal welfare groups, sanctuaries, and individuals throughout the world hold special events to heighten public awareness of animal issues and to encourage people to think about how we as humans relate to animals.

World Animal Day Mission Statement

* To celebrate animal life in all its forms
* To celebrate humankind’s relationship with the animal kingdom
* To acknowledge the diverse roles that animals play in our lives from being our companions, supporting and helping us, to bringing a sense of wonder into our lives
* To acknowledge and be thankful for the way in which animals enrich our lives

History

World Animal Day was conceived at an ecologist’s convention in Florence, Italy in 1931 as a way of highlighting the plight of endangered species. October 4th was chosen as World Animal Day because it is also the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a Catholic Church holiday which is often celebrated with an annual “blessing of the pets”.

Since then, it has grown to encompass all kinds of animal life and has been widely celebrated around the world. It is intended as a day of celebration for anyone in the world who cares about animals. It is not restricted to any one nationality, creed, religion, political belief or ideology. Read the rest of this entry »

About Pet Monologues

Posted in Uncategorized on February 2nd, 2008 by PM

Pet Monologues is helping to heighten public awareness of animal issues and to encourage people to think about how we as humans relate to animals. Special interests: Caw to art! is an effort to showcase pets and animals in an ARTFUL manner. We have a year-long initiative in 2007-08 recognizing World Animal Day called Bless the Animals. We also feature design-driven modern pet products. And we are green. Very green.

Our Pets
Pets are important to us. They are considered both family and friend. They impact our lives in both big and little ways. They greet us when we come home. They pester us for attention. We know they can wake us up in the middle of the night and sound a fire alarm. We know they can be fierce protectors if given an opportunity. These are our happy tales.

We also have tales that make us sad. Some of our sad stories cause us to laugh when we share them with friends. That’s because everyone who has had a pet or knows a pet owner can identify with them. And telling these stories feels a bit like the proper closure.

This site is about our pets and their stories.

Kitty cycle.

Posted in Products on February 1st, 2008 by PM

Here are three kitty products worth a look unless you like being hands on with your friend(s). Also, whenever litter products are discussed I wish someone would address a solution for litter tracks. We use clumping litter, clean it daily, and have not had much luck keeping the litter contained. I suppose this is like asking the cat to take their muddy boots off before coming into the house.

Drinkwell
* Measures 9″ W x 11″ D x 7 1/4″ H.
* Adjustable flow rate.
* Self-contained (no need to connect to a water line).
* No overflow if power is lost.
* Pitcher-like spout is 5″ above the floor, creating a waterfall effect.
* Electrical use of the appliance is 6 W.

A must have supply for your cat or small dog! Treat your pet to fresher, better tasting water with the Drinkwell Fresh Water Fountain. Read the rest of this entry »

South Beach. Woof!

Posted in Humor, Oddly enough on January 13th, 2008 by PM

Pet Monologues will be down for a week for technical issues. From 1/14 - 1/22. You will be able to access the site and leave comments. But we won’t be able to authorize or comment back. We apologize for any inconvenience. During this period PM is going to Miami’s South Beach area for business and R&R. I’ll have my camera as there are many photo opportunities. A little about the South Beach area:

South Beach is the section of Miami Beach, Florida that encompasses the southernmost 23 blocks of an island separating the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. This area was the first section of Miami Beach to be developed, starting in the 1910s, thanks to the development efforts of Carl G. Fisher, the Lummus Brothers, John S. Collins, and others. The area has gone through numerous man-made and natural changes over the years, including a booming regional economy, increased tourism, and the 1926 hurricane that destroyed much of the area.

In 1912, Miami businessmen the Lummus Brothers acquired 400 acres (1.6 km²) of Collins’ land in an effort to build an oceanfront city of modest single family residences. In 1913 Collins started construction of a bridge from Miami to Miami Beach. Although some local residents invested in the bridge, Collins ran short of money before he could complete it.

Carl G. Fisher, a successful entrepreneur who made millions in 1909 after selling a business to Union Carbide, came to the beach in 1913. His vision was to establish South Beach as a successful city independent of Miami. This was the same year that the restaurant Joe’s Stone Crab opened. Fisher loaned $50,000 to Collins for his bridge, which was completed in June, 1913. the Collins Bridge was later replaced by the Venetian Causeway. Read the rest of this entry »

Kanga boots. Woof!

New year’s resolution? Get your butt in shape. Animal inspired—of course.

Healthy body. Healthy mind. Fitness for man or beast. PM sees a lot of these Kanga boots lately and I need something that takes the strain off of these old bones. Check them out at kangoojumps.com

A Bend, Oregon manufacturer—possibly extreme terrain cyclists capital of the world—sent us info about their new product—for big, hearty animals only! Watching joggers run their companions on hot days or pulling the master who is on rollerblades raises a red flag. Play close attention to your animal, they would run themselves to death for you. dogpoweredscooter.com Read the rest of this entry »
