Maukie the cat!

Build it. They WILL come.

Posted in Death, Editor's choice, Humor, Mammals, Oddly enough, Products, Tips/Info on August 14th, 2008 by PM

It’s those bears again!

Some people build swimming pools in their back yards. But outdoor pools in Alaska just won’t work.

Since this particular family lives on the outskirts of Anchorage, they decided to build a sturdy, colorful playground for their 3 and 4 year old sons, with smooth-stone gravel all around it to avoid knee scrapes and other injuries.

They finished building it on Saturday evening, and the following morning, as the Mom was about to wake up the boys and have them go out to play in their new play center, this is what she saw from the upstairs window.

The power of the dog.

Posted in Artworks, Stories on August 14th, 2008 by hesso

by Rudyard Kipling

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie–
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find–it’s your own affair–
But…you’ve given your heart for a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!);
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone–wherever it goes–for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart for the dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent.
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we’ve kept ‘em, the more do we grieve:
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long–
So why in Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Nibbie’s parlor.

Posted in Artworks, Gross, Humor, Oddly enough, Stories on August 13th, 2008 by PM

NOTE: Adult language.

Monologue Description: “NIBBIE’S PARLOR” is an absurd theatre monologue.

Character Description: In this monologue, Plathamus talks to a long distanced cousin, whom he hasn’t seen in many years, all about his business parlor. He drinks heavily…

PLATHAMUS:

(what starts off as a slow bark, escalates into a louder, faster…more fierce bark)

ruff…ruff…ruff…Ruff…Ruff…RUFF…RUFF…RUFF…RUFF! RUFF! RUFF!! RUFF!! RUFF!! RUFF!!! RUFF!!! RUFF!!!

(than silence)

(nonchalantly) I took a giant dump one day and discovered a key in my doody. Upon retrieving this key I also discovered that it unlocked a door. It took me ten years to find this door. When I opened it, a bunch of featherless chickens jumped out but they barked like dogs…They were barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking and barking…..and bark-ing.

One was blue, the small one and the others hated him, except for Oscar. Oscar was the biggest one and he protected the little blue one but whenever Oscar wasn’t around, the other featherless chickens would fuck him up. Sad. Read the rest of this entry »

Monday. Wordle. #1

Posted in Artworks, Issues/Opinions on August 11th, 2008 by PM

Interested in generating a Who UR ( Word Cloud ) that defines your space? Or a post? Try Wordle (great name!) a DIY word generator that makes it easy. You have options to control layout, color, fonts, and most importantly your content.

To build a Wordle you can provide your url or just words. PM tried the Pet Monologue url but Wordle generated a visual of our most recent posts. The end result was not what our site is about, just where our head/or the news was at last week. The above Wordle was generated via “select” stories over the course of a year.

Spread Who UR
If you send us a link to your own Wordle we will add your linky to this post to grow a master list.

**** START COPY****
Build a Wordle that defines U/your site. Be serious or not. Expose yourself, or not. A big picture message or where your passion lies most recently.

What message would you like to send out to the blogsphere?
1. Create your Wordle.
2. Post your Wordle on your blog along with these “start/end” rules
3. Tag a minimum of 3 bloggers - or your entire blogroll - to do the same. Notify them of the tag. Your Wordle will soar into the blogosphere.

PM says: ADD your site to the Wordle link list and place your blog’s name and url in a comment HERE to let us know you have completed your post. We will add your linky to the master list frequently. You can copy this master list at any time and add it to your post. Email webmaster [at] petmonolgoues.com if you have questions.”

Gorilla murders.

Posted in Death, Endangered, Issues/Opinions, Mammals, News on August 7th, 2008 by PM

Came across this very disturbing story visiting the NPR site and then went to the photographer’s site for photos, which are even more disturbing. This is a story about a gorilla named Senkwekwe who was murdered,
executed actually.

Here is a portion of NPR writeup…Last July, Brent Stirton took a photograph that shocked the world when it was published in Newsweek — a picture of a dead 500-pound male gorilla named Senkwekwe, one of six endangered mountain gorillas who had been murdered, execution-style, in the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In the photo, Senkwekwe is strapped on his back, on a litter made of saplings. More than a dozen African men are carrying him — gently, respectfully — out of the jungle that was supposed to be his sanctuary.

When Stirton took that photo, one pressing question was still unanswered: Who would do such a thing, and why?

Stirton recently got a chance to investigate the answer. He was the first photojournalist allowed back into the part of Virunga where the mountain gorillas live — a section now controlled by a militia. Read the rest of this entry »

Rocking horse toilet.
A little of topic but think of saddle, i.e., riding a horse.

This concept challenges the traditional form of the toilet or “throne” by toying with the nostalgic familiarity of the rocking horse. However, the inclusion of foot pegs provides real health benefits by raising the knees above the waist, which facilitates a thorough expulsion of waste.
