A loud round of applause. “And tonight’s special guest: Britney!” Another roaring applause. Heard on Leno last night. That wasn’t just a rerun. That must have been a 2004 Turner classic. At 10:30p on all channels it was the same. It’s the only time PM watches the tube. Then and Grey’s Anatomy. This better end quick.

As PM writes this post the thought occurs to me: though the writers have laid down their creative pens, they may not be sitting idly by. Who determines which rerun is shown?

For the record, Pet Monologues supports the creative efforts of the writers and hopes the Writers Guild of America (WGA) wins and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers does the write thing. If you feel supportive of the writers, visit Dogs for Democrats for more poop.

DeGeneres ex-dog in spotlight.

Posted in Issues/Opinions, News on November 13th, 2007 by PM

Ellen DeGeneres’ former dog Iggy, a 5-month-old Affenpinscher mix is returning to the spotlight, shooting a new Public Service Announcement for pet adoption awareness—and appears to be very happy.

The dog first made headlines in October after DeGeneres, with the best of intentions, gave the adopted dog away to her hairdresser. Because the move was against the Mutts and Moms pet adoption agency’s policy, the dog was taken back.

Keith A. Fink, an attorney for Mutts and Moms, says Iggy is now “doing famously very well and in a loving home,”

Fink would not reveal the dog’s whereabouts “for the safety of the adoptive family,” but stressed that Iggy has been placed “with a family that is a loving and takes great care of him.”

Added Fink, “Iggy likes to play with overstuffed animals and has a special preference for a stuffed turtle.”

Editor’s note: more background? Noted, this does not seem to be a happy ending for many people. PM is glad for pet adoption awareness however.

A sequay from art to…endangered. What are the products below made of?
fishskin-jacket.jpg

fishskin-bikini.jpg

Fish skin! The jacket from salmon and found at the Textile Museum of Canada. The shoes by Puma are from the wolf fish. The bikini by Mio Destino from talapia.

The pros: waterproof, odorless (they are not fish sandwiches but cured hide), interesting patterns. The cons: not elastic like spandex, more like canvas. Yes, they are still animal products. But it does start one thinking about all the other materials available other than animal products.

Veterans Day is November 11 but observed this year on the 12th. Many people, like me, are observing this holiday today and 11/11 is really more appropriate. Holidays, like wedding anniversaries and celebrating the day your are born should be “observed” on THAT day. If your birthday is on a Thursday, we observe your birthday on Thursday and go to your big bash on Friday or Saturday, not the school night. Keep traditions sacred. There are so few in life.

This is a USA holiday. But we all want world peace.
