Boys and dogs.

so i’ve like this one guy for a while, right? ok, well, today i wrote a note, saying that i like him, and i gave it to him in class. unfortunately, he said that he’d read it after class, and i don’t get to see him for the rest of the day. boys. jeezy creezy. and there’s this boy named will in my class that likes me (i don’t care, really), and we were playing a game where someone yells your name, and they toss a ball at you. if you don’t catch it, you’re out, and if you call someone’s name that’s already been called, you’re out. so my teacher asks us if we’re ready, and then she throws it at will, and he doesn’t catch it, so he’s out. well, he gets kinda upset, and then goes off to sulk. then he comes back in the game just as i get the ball, so i say his name, and throw it at him as hard as i can. he obviously doesn’t catch it, and i hit him just as my teacher’s talking about how he was out, and she’s agreeing that he can come back in the game. then i hit him and she says, “well, now you’re out”. it was so easy. i got him at least twice. and he was threatening me about it too. he even took one of the tennis balls off of the bottom of the chairs, and he threatened to hit me in the face with it. fortunately the bell rang for the end of the day. National pet memorial day.

Posted in Death on September 9th, 2007 by PM

Today is National Pet Memorial Day, a day for us to remember all of the beautiful pet friends we have loved and lost.

Unfortunately, when someone loses a pet, they may hear things such as “it was just a dog” …. “go get a new one” … “it’s not like it was a family member that died.”
The thing is, for many of us when we lose a pet, it is indeed a family member that dies…a very loved family member. These wonderful, loved beings are certainly never “just a pet.” This is true whether we are talking about a cat, dog, bird, rabbit, reptile, or some other type of animal.

The grief that comes with that loss can be just as strong as if it were a human family member - sometimes even stronger. With the loss a pet, a very real, very important bond has been severed and like other live changing events, it can be extremely painful. Those who dismiss the grief, simply do not understand the strong bond between people and their pets. It’s a shame too, really…because it means they will never know the depth of love that we experience every day with our pets.

Regardless of what others may say, it is definitely okay to grieve when we lose a beloved pet! And it’s also okay to seek out people who understand the pain and will allow each other to grieve for the pet. There are websites, and other resources for people to turn to when they need help getting through the loss. Many of them have chat rooms or bulletin boards, memorial pages, inspirational reading, and suggestions for books or real life resources in cities throughout the country. These resources allow people to grieve for their pets in their own way.

So, today when we think of the pets we have lost, we can honor each of them by remembering how rich our lives have been because of the bond, the love, and affection that we had with them. And even though there is pain when we lose our beautiful pet friends, we are extremely fortunate to be pet people!

Animal hospital group says “healthy practice, healthier pets.”

Posted in Health, Professional on September 7th, 2007 by carlyn

The American Animal Hospital Association, founded in 1933 and currently located in Denver, Colorado, is a trade association with over 36,000 small animal veterinarian members. The AAHA sets standards for vet practices and accredits over 3,000 veterinary hospitals and clinics. It also conducts on-going education for veterinarians and provides its members access to a comprehensive Pet Care Library.

Hospitals throughout the US and Canada submit voluntarily for AAHA accreditation. To win it, each hospital and clinic is evaluated on over 900 standards in areas such as quality of care, management, medical records and facility. Each accredited hospital must have diagnostic and pharmacy services in order to start treatment of sick animals immediately.

AAHA lists accredited hospitals and AAHA members on its website. You can also take a virtual tour of an AAHA accredited facility at aahanet.org
