Puma. Endangered species.

Posted in Artworks, Bless animals, Endangered, Products on September 5th, 2008 by PM

This post celebrates World Animal Day and Bless the Animals. Follow the links to learn more about PM’s initiative which started on October 4 07. We will be looking for marketing efforts that feature animals.

Here we feature a collaboration between Puma and Atmos NY, which consists of three pairs of Puma models inspired by three endangered
polar animals: the Harp Seal, Macaroni Penguin and Polar Bear. Each sneaker has its own unique design, but comes with the works of National Geographic photographer Mitsuaki Iwago featured on it, as well as a transparent outsole.

Each shoe in the collection captures the unique characteristics of a specific animal, and features Mr. Iwago’s photography on the removable insole. The name and habitat of each animal is on the reverse tongue and the outsole in both English and Japanese. The shoes were created in hopes of bringing attention to our impact on these endangered animals.

The second shoe in the Polar Pack is the PUMA x Atmos Polar Bear Clyde. Drawing direct inspiration from the polar bears of the Artic the shoe features an off white nubuck upper and fur collar, while the blue ice sole represents the Polar Bear’s natural habitat. The shoe comes with three sets of colored laces and have the Atmos “A” on the lace tips and heel. The Polar Bear is currently ranked as vulnerable and is considered to be facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.

PM will attempt to create a post a day leading up to World Animal Day 2008. Give us a hand!

Cat furniture is typically “catty”, you know the carpeted kind with ramps and boxes. Reminds you of the ape house furniture at the zoo. It does little for that home decor statement if you are into that sort of thing. Here is a pleasant, and good looking solution for the visually inspired.

Kittypods are made of industrial-grade corrugated cardboard, laminated in contours of high-end modern decor. Their earthy hues, texture, and curvy, curious shapes make them equally at home amid rustic or contemporary surroundings.

They are pricey at $250 to $350, but are built to last. And cats love them according to their designer, Elizabeth Paige Smith, a life-long cat lover. Cats love the texture of the cardboard because it’s great for scratching, and they love the shapes, which are great for stretching and hiding both in
and under.

It’s those bears again!

Some people build swimming pools in their back yards. But outdoor pools in Alaska just won’t work.

Since this particular family lives on the outskirts of Anchorage, they decided to build a sturdy, colorful playground for their 3 and 4 year old sons, with smooth-stone gravel all around it to avoid knee scrapes and other injuries.

They finished building it on Saturday evening, and the following morning, as the Mom was about to wake up the boys and have them go out to play in their new play center, this is what she saw from the upstairs window.

Rocking horse toilet.
A little of topic but think of saddle, i.e., riding a horse.

This concept challenges the traditional form of the toilet or “throne” by toying with the nostalgic familiarity of the rocking horse. However, the inclusion of foot pegs provides real health benefits by raising the knees above the waist, which facilitates a thorough expulsion of waste.

Another sustainable product. Make that pet product. Make that dog product. Here’s why it’s a good idea. In the US, our dogs produce enough waste to fill an 800-foot-tall football field every year - not the most glamorous image. And scooping all that poop into petroleum-based plastic bags not only leaches toxic chemicals as the whole package slowly breaks down (for thousands of years) in a landfill, but preserves what needn’t be preserved.

Leaving scat on the ground isn’t an eco-friendly option either, as 20-30% of all pollutants in waterways can be attributed to canine waste.

Solution: use a biodegradable bag. The Business Bags from Spike are made from corn, and the company recently worked with a domestic company to devise an entirely homegrown product. One of our ecofabulous ladies can attest that they decompose in the promised 45 days. Keep in mind; not much biodegrades in a landfill. Business Bags are a simple, great option for people with municipal composting. For the rest of you, check DIY composting here.

What do you get when you cross Daffy Duck and Luke Skywalker?
Rubber duckies!

At first glance it seemed that these toys would fall into the “green” category as they were advertised as shutting off when not in the water. But no, when the battery dies you throw it on the plastic water bottle heap. “Running on a non-replaceable 45-hour battery, all are ready to swim around and around, and to save battery power, they stop whatever it is that propels their watery wanderings as soon as you take them out of the H2O.” Luke Pondwalker, Princess Layer, and—it’s Pondtrooper. Not that I made a bee-line to find these cute things—I was looking for information on Macbook Air.

Can this be done? Anyone?

Are you sick of cleaning out litter boxes or wanting to show off fluffy’s party manners? Anyone feel this is a little too much information for the cat?

We are reminded that Robert DeNiro trained Jinxey. Until we know more, we are just the messenger here.

The above information assumes a new product and the following is the old fashioned way which may assume a therapist. Read the rest of this entry »

Here are three kitty products worth a look unless you like being hands on with your friend(s). Also, whenever litter products are discussed I wish someone would address a solution for litter tracks. We use clumping litter, clean it daily, and have not had much luck keeping the litter contained. I suppose this is like asking the cat to take their muddy boots off before coming into the house.
