Join the forum discussionKobe Bryant’s popularity extends even to the animal kingdom. From a database of more than 465,000 pet insured animals including dogs, cats, birds, and exotic domesticated animals, 359 are named “Kobe,” making it the 189th most popular name of 65,536 pet names across the nation. Five pets in the database are named “LeBron,” two are name “Yao Ming,” and there’s a “Boston Garnett” along with a “Dirk Nowitzki.”

SLAMORADA, Fla. — A dog is recovering after a Florida Keys carpenter dove in to save his pet from a shark.
Greg LeNoir said he took his 14-pound rat terrier Jake for a daily swim at a marina Friday.
The 5-foot shark suddenly surfaced and grabbed nearly the entire dog in its mouth.
LeNoir said he yelled, then balled up his fists and dove headfirst into the water. He hit the shark in the back and the creature finally let go of the dog.
Man and dog made it safely back to shore. The dog suffered bite wounds but was not critically injured.

you hit the stumbleupon button (extension for firefox or ie) and it takes you to random websites recommended by other stumbleupon users. One of these sites is the petmonologues/bear page.
February 2nd, 2008 at 8:03 pm
k, thanks. let me get this straight. i have the stumble button (Stumble!) = right?
i did do that and hit it about 30 times and i do get a great deal of pet and art web sites. but the bear page never came up.
is that what you mean? can’t believe all this traffic just by hitting this button. another 3,000 hits since my last comment!
February 3rd, 2008 at 8:32 am
yeah, i stumbled here, too. it’s a button that takes you to random sites that are said to be good by other users. the list of sites is probably incredible now, so good luck finding your site in a list!
February 3rd, 2008 at 8:37 am
stumble is random, also it has specific categories of interest that guide the stumble process. so it coming up for you would greatly depend on you having the same category of interest marked as the person who added this site listed it under.
if that makes sense..
February 3rd, 2008 at 3:41 pm
amazing. in the past 15 hrs there are over 20,000 visits. and they keep coming. are these visits mostly “in-out” visits. are they being forwarded and that’s why the traffic is so high. this is all random “stumbling”?
is there a “search” function? pm belongs to a pet & art group so my random stumblings are primarily pet and art.
i don’t like the random aspect of this. i am too impatient to just keep hitting the button not know what is coming up. i must be in the minority here…

From what I’ve seen, SU appeals to younger folks more so than us older ones. We’re result-focused, while younger people are more often taking the trip for the sake of the trip, destination be damned.
There are exceptions, of course. FWIW, I Stumbled here, too.

diane = via a traffic analyzer
bill vincent = your are about 90% right
however, if “totally random” wouldn’t a lot of posts on one’s site get this kind of traffic? this one is special for whatever reason, at least on this site. is there a fave post category where certain hot posts get some kind of preferential treatment?
site navigation on SU not too great though navigating to friends/fans is easy if you select friends and fave fans.
February 5th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
i have been on SU the past couple of days. it is turning out to be a pretty neat site. the randomness is still somewhat of an issue. but i will admit, it is an addictive site.
and guess what i found after giving up hope that it would surface while surfing this huge population of sites =

the line is nylon…
and stumbleupon is based off of preferences you list for things that you like to read/do…

I too am from StumbleUpon. The idea of it is that sites that the users like get revisited. So the more people that click “I like it”, the more people will be sent here. And generally (not now though, as this was my last stumble before bed) I tend to browse around sites if the first page I land on looks interesting. Its more entertaining and faster than googling or using blogrolls if you don’t know what you’re looking for, just that it wants to be interesting.

rebecacaca (i love it!)
thanks so much for explaining what motivates you on this unique (SU) site. the more i visit SU the better i understand what you are saying. i am very close to this photo series even though i did not take the pix or even originate it. but it is unbelievable how many people have clicked/or whatever on these images. why are they so powerful? what is it about these pix that captures everyone’s attention. i don’t expect SU visitors to be passing the image on but it seems the images are selected as “favorites” and that is what you = stumbler = visits while visiting SU.
