On-air cockroach gets TV crew fired.
TURKMENISTAN—Turkmenistan president Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedo sacked 30 TV employees after viewers of the 9 p.m. news program complained about an unscheduled appearance of … a cockroach.
Journalists, directors, camera operators and technical staff were fired from the show, Vatan, after the insect crawled across the news desk during a live broadcast. The cockroach’s appearance was aired again on the 11 p.m. edition.
President Berdymukhamedo, a former dentist and health minister, had instructed the ministry of culture to revamp the Soviet-era TV channel. However, the new committee founded to perform the task reportedly only works 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The country’s minister for culture, Gulmurat Muradov, has ordered an internal investigation into the cockroach incident.
The earliest fossil of a cockroach is about 280 million years old – 80 million years older than the first dinosaurs. Bet the cockroach outlasts the investigation.
P.S.
Scientists have actually performed brain surgery on cockroaches.
