Red Wolf: Dog Named Balto
An endangered animal story by Kyle, age 10.
One day in the Woods of No Return a sheep was attacked by a pack of Timber Wolves. At first the Timber Wolves broke the sheep’s leg, and made it bloody.
Illustration by Kyle using Kid Pix.
Then out of whom knows where came Balto the Red Wolf/Dog with his reddish brown fur and brown eyes. Balto chased three wolves away. Four of them howled and shouted out at Balto, “Timber.” Then out of who knows where came an avalanche. Balto quickly pushed him and the seriously injured sheep to the side while they watched the huge mass of snow go by.
Then Farmer Fred came out of his house, and saw Balto next to the sheep and thought he tried to kill it. So he rushed into his house and got his rifle, but Balto was gone by the time he got outside. The one thing Farmer Fred did not know about Balto is he does not eat live puny sheep he only eats dead puny sheep. Farmer Fred was eager to get Balto, and all the Red Wolves that live around him. Red Wolves are endangered and Farmer Fred wanted Red Wolves extinct. Red Wolves are endangered because they go after sheep and farmers kill them.
The next morning Farmer Fred went to a pet shop to get an animal to kill Balto. So the owner Petshop Pete asked, ”What shall I get you?”
Farmer Fred asked, “What do you have?”
Petshop Pete said, “Cat, fish, dog, bird and we also have mice.”
Farmer Fred said, “I want a dog, a real vicious dog.”
Petshop Pete said, “We have a vicious dog named Killer Kyle.”
So Farmer Fred said, “I’ll take it.”
The next day Farmer Fred and Killer Kyle went into the woods of No Return to go hunt for Balto. Farmer Fred is doing this because he thinks he is going to kill another one of his rabbits. So Farmer Fred, and Killer Kyle went to a cave because they heard he lived in the cave but, what he didn’t know is he went to the wrong cave. He went inside, and then out came the same pack of Timber Wolves that almost killed the rabbit. The pack of Timber Wolves ambushed Farmer Fred. Four of them went for Killer Kyle, but Killer Kyle ripped off one head. Another Timber Wolf he threw against a tree and broke its back. The other howled, and the other Timber Wolves came. They were too much for Kyle, but he did not want them to keep hurting Farmer Fred. So Killer Kyle let them hurt him cause he was loyal to Farmer Fred. Killer Kyle still wanted help so he barked loud. Then out came Balto he ripped them all off Kyle. Balto had saved Killer Kyle and Farmer Fred from being wolf food.
Killer Kyle was sent to a vet and Farmer Fred got casts on him. Farmer Fred needed a guard dog or wolf so he hired Balto. Balto became loyal to Farmer Fred and became his pet so those wolves killed only the animals in the woods.
