Kool Stools.
My friend Lisa came over just before my Friday “Kool Stools” event to do a quaisi-quality control once-over. If you remember, these are the new stools I am creating, they are really “kool.” She found very few “fixes” but I was totally taken back when she noticed dog hairs in the finished products. Had already done tags to include the disclaimer “streaks, globs and other imperfectioins are intentional.” So, while we got most of the Roxy hairs out, I decided to revise my tags to say, “streaks, globs, dog hairs and other . . .”

Roxy Hart as Director, Quality Assurance
Then took it another step and “issued” the attached press (see below) release. Had this with a photo of Roxy with her new title on the table with other collateral. The event was fine . . . learned a lot but don’ t think this audience is my best target—more work to do. People took info and might order later.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE——KOOL STOOLS NAMES ROXY HART DIRECTOR OF QUALITY ASSURANCE
New Position Established to Reduce Number of Dog Hairs in Hand-painted and Decorated Step Stools
Denver, CO (October 5, 2007)—Kool Stools, designer and maker of one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted step stools for kids of all ages, announces today the appointment of Roxy Hart as Director, Quality Assurance.
Ms. Hart, who spends time in the Kool Stools studio during production, has often left behind small amounts of dog hair that gets airborne or attached to the clothing of designer Christine Meyer. Recent examination of the product prior to participation at Micro Business Development’s First Friday Denver Arts Week event, revealed minute numbers of Roxy hairs embedded in the hand-painted and artfully decorated step stools.
Prior to being named director, Ms. Hart served as Kool Stool’s Quality Control Manager. Says Meyer, “Roxy has always had issues with the control concept. We trust this promotion and renaming of the position as Director of Quality Assurance, will result in fewer dog hairs in the finished product.â€
At the same time, Kool Stools’ business consultants have suggested that the dog hairs add charm to the many distinctive hues in the designer’s palette. Adds Meyer, “Since I’m colorblind, I have a few more challenges than locating dog hairs in my paint cans.â€
Currently Meyer works with a palette of colors based on tone rather than hue. She will solicit feedback about the dog hairs at the First Friday exhibit.
